Well, here it is September 2009 already!! Three quarters into this year and it’s flying right by us! September is always a welcome month, with the extreme heat of summer slowing fading away and our neighborhood children back in school. It brings back the “regular schedule” to many of us and that includes it being the month that we start back up with our monthly civic club meetings. But, the September meeting has always been a little bit more special because it is our annual “Meet and Greet Your Neighbor” meeting as well as a casual and laid back food sharing Potluck get-together! Many of our busy Deer Park residents who can’t always get out to our regular monthly meetings, seem to always try and make it to the September kick-off meeting to catch up with each other on the latest information and happenings in our community. Do try to come out for some neighborly fellowship and if you would like to bring a favorite dish that you want to share with others, we would love you to do just that. It doesn’t have to be home made……in fact, you don’t have to bring a food dish at all! We just want YOU to be there! Our Deer Park members sure can come up with some delicious and tasty recipes! I’ve already heard talk of some yummy items again……….swedish meatballs, scalloped potatoes, spinach dip/bread, chocolate cake are just a few!

You also won’t want to miss hearing from our guest speaker, Cathy Haynes, Director of Charleston County Emergency Preparedness – she comes to us on the twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Hugo. Come on out and hear what Cathy has to say. Also, as a reminder, we will have copies of this year's county information booklet on hurricanes which includes evacuation routes, shelter openings, crucial phone numbers, and other important information. If you’ve had any questions along the way concerning what you would need to do in the case of an impending disaster, this is the time to come out and ask the perfect person to get your answers. Cathy is highly credentialed in training and education with years of experience to go along with it.

Catching Up On Your Civic Club Dues!!
Hey folks…….just another friendly reminder: If you’re unsure of whether you are current on your dues, please make it a point to check with Linda Brinson, our treasurer, who will have the records with her at the meeting. Your annual $15.00 check goes a long way to help fray the cost of various expenses associated with your civic club activities. We are trying to update all member’s records and ask that you please bring your check with you if you have not paid.

In Memoriam
Many of you already know by now, that a longtime Deer Park resident, Myrtle Long, mother of our civic club president, Julia Long, passed away on September 5th. Mrs. Long was known and loved by many in our community here. She was 91 years old and outlived her 5 brothers and 4 sisters. We are going to miss her. Please remember Julia and her family at this time with your thoughts and your prayers.

Neighborhood Crime Watch Representative
We have a new Neighborhood Crime Watch Representative, Mr. John Flinn. Thank-you to John for stepping up to the plate and caring for the continuing safety of our Deer Park Community. It takes all of us, together, to make things work as right as they possibly can. John brings new enthusiasm and new ideas to the table and we are fortunate to have him on board with us!
