PRESIDENT'S CORNER

by Julia Long

Have you been wondering what became of all that land advertised to be auctioned off a couple of weeks back? Have a question about whatever happened to those sidewalks we were promised so long ago? Or the traffic light that was supposed to be installed at the corner of Otranto and Antler? Wondering about how the University Park development is coming along? Can't remember when the library is supposed to re-open? Think you'd like to go to the new drugstore if you could only remember where it is and when it's supposed to open? Not sure whether you're allowed to build an apartment for your mother-in-law over your garage?

Eager to report problems on your street but not sure how to or would prefer not to do it in your own name? Curious about the latest plans for a thirteen-house development on Storen Street near

Deer Park Baptist Church?

You're in luck. It's that wonderful time of year when our regular monthly meetings begin again!

Come MEET AND GREET your neighbors in a potluck. If you can bring along some finger food, please do so. If you can't bring food, please come anyway. Hear a summary of what's been happening these last few months, and help us identify needs for the next year. Please invite at least one neighbor who hasn't been attending. If you belong to one of the Deer Park churches, please ask your pastor to join us or to send someone from the church. If you don't like to drive at night, just give me a call, and I'll see if I can

arrange for a ride.

CITY COMPREHENSIVE DEVELOPMENT PLAN

FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS

There will be a meeting at Stall High School at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, for us to hear the recommendations about our area that the consultants will be presenting to the city. This is our most important remaining opportunity to make sure that what is being planned for Deer Park is what our community wants.  Please try to come.

WEBSITE MANAGER WANTED

Our beautiful civic club website is being wasted. We could have up-to-date information on all the relevant issues in our area. Every one of our churches, schools, and other organizations such the library could be posting their special events. We could be sharing information with each other about special needs, those who are ill, yard sales, and all the other little matters that make us a community. But to make all this happen, we need a volunteer who is comfortable working with computers. The ideal would be someone who knows just a little HTML, but that isn't really necessary. The website is set up so that all that's needed is one kind soul to use a very simple procedure to upload new material and erase the old. Isn't there SOMEBODY in our community who regularly uses a computer at work and/or at home, and who would be willing to undertake a little brief training then spend an hour or two a week to give our neighborhood an internet meeting place?

FLU SHOTS

Super K-Mart is advertising flu shots on Thursday, October 18th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $25.

If you can bring proof that you have Medicare Part B, the shots are free.
