This Month: City Council & Mayoral Candidates - Come Out to Meet & Greet Them – Get Involved!!

PRESIDENTS CORNER
By Beth Evans

This month we are honored to have a Meet & Greet meeting with the Candidates running for City Council and Mayor positions, who ultimately will be representing our area. I, as well as your Deer Park Civic Club board members, encourage each and every one of you to come out to meet all of the candidates that will be present. NOW is the time to ask any questions you may have for them and to find out how they think, what their plans are for YOUR community and how that may affect your everyday quality of life here. Don’t wait to complain later after the election, when in fact, NOW is the time you can have your voices heard and your concerns addressed by them. Every one of us who live in this area has something that is of concern to us. Have you ever contemplated what it could be like if our area were to become even more heavy with traffic; have inappropriate businesses built in our neighborhood, or even too many encroaching businesses? Do you have questions about future land uses here in our community? Even if you are not a regular
meeting attendee, or even if you can’t come right at 6:30p.m., we still encourage you to try and make every effort to attend THIS meeting. As a community we are all in this together to try and make our various subdivisions within our adjoining neighborhoods, the best that they can possibly be. Who we elect has absolutely everything to do with the end results where we are living and raising our children and grandchildren. Come out also to enjoy the refreshments we will be serving.

On another note, I have also been working with the City of North Charleston on getting our area to reflect the Future Land Maps. I am hoping to have some updates on this soon. Once I get an update, I will share it with you all.

In November’s meeting, we will have elections for the Deer Park Neighborhood Council Board. If you are interested in participating on the board, please contact me at 843.437.4140.

In December’s meeting, we will have our traditional holiday party.

I look forward to seeing everyone Monday October 17th.
