The
city has an extensive landscaping plan for The Antlers Interchange. Please come
to our meeting this month to learn more about it and to get caught up on other
community news.
Plan
ahead for next month's meeting, November 20, as it will be extremely important.
As we head into the holiday season when crime often increases, we'll be having
crime-prevention training led by the city police officer who specializes in
this. Everyone is invited, whether a member of the civic club or not, so please
let your friends and niehgbors know about it. We also invite representatives
from Northwood Estates and The Lakes, as this needs to be a wide-scale effort.
Also
put our annual party on
your Calendar: Monday, December 11. Notice that's the second Monday of that
month, rather than the third Monday, so as not to be so close to Christmas. We
always have a good time; it's important to maintain good relations with your
neighbors by visiting and socializing with them.
Nominations for Citizen of the
Year
The
Citizens Advisory Council will take nominations for anyone in the city that you
know of who, in the past year, has gone "beyond the norm to help others in
a special way, performing exceptional acts of service, possibly even being put
at risk to help in a potentially dangerous situation, etc." The CAC asks
that you include the name, address, and phone number of this person "with
some background information and special things done over and above his or her
normal job or activity." Also include your own name, address, and home
number. Nominations due by Nov. 1. Send to the City of North Charleston,
Citizens Advisory Council, c/o Executive Department, P.O. Box 190016, North
Charleston, SC 29419-9016.
Senior Bingo
Senior Bingo is now being
held at the Northwoods Recreation Center ( 8348 Greenridge Rd. ) on the first
Tuesday of every month beginning at 10 a.m., ( please arrive early ) and will
last approximately 1 hour. There is no
fee for playing Bingo. The phone number to the Northwoods Recreation Center is
572-5410. If
you, or anyone you know
has any good ideas for other senior activities, please contact our fellow Deer
Park member, Sara Collins at 553-0288, or see her at the Bingo sessions!
Daylight Savings Time Ends
Remember…….Spring
forward…..Fall back! It’s almost that
time of year again. This year Daylight
Savings Time ends on October 29th, the last Sunday of October,
at 2 a.m. We revert to Standard Time
on this day, so remember to set your clocks BACK one hour.
Community Needs
We
are currently looking for someone who will be willing to take the minutes at
our monthly Civic Club meetings. This
doesn’t involve a whole lot of time and we could surely use your help! If you or someone you know are interested in
helping with this, please contact our Civic Club President, Julia Long. We are also looking for someone to work with
Dennis Isgitt on Clean City Sweep, now in the pre-planning stages. We
have needs in this community and we count on volunteers to step forward. Please
take a look at these and see if, in fact, you can’t spend just a little extra
time in helping in these areas.
Other News
The
CAC reports that FREE flu shots will become available at Eckerd’s
Drugs on Remount Road on October 19. It
would be best to call ahead to confirm.
Also, Please take note that BULK TRASH will now be picked
up every Wednesday, instead of every other Wednesday. This does not include items such as tires and construction
debris. It does include regular yard
items and tree limbs/branches up to 4 feet in length. For a more comprehensive list of what you can and cannot put out,
please contact the North Charleston Public Works Dept. at 745-1026.
