PRESIDENTS CORNER
By Julia Long

Please plan to come to our November meeting this coming Monday, November 15. A great deal has been happening in Deer Park, and we want you to hear all the details. In addition, we must nominate officers for next year. We need new people to nominate and work, as no one can indefinitely keep up the pressure of tending to all that needs to be done. Please, please, please let 2011 be the year when you become more actively involved. Please volunteer. If you assume that the same small group of people will go on doing the lion's share of the work, eventually nothing will be done. For the civic club to continue, we must have more people willing to share the burden.

Sadly, the deadline was missed for Bobby Jameson to be able to nominate from our area Melinda Chambers for CAC 2010 Citizen of the Year. No one could deserve that honor more than Melinda, and several neighbors furnished information for her nomination. Melinda was President of the Northwood Estate Civic League from Sept 2005 through May 2010, and is now a Trustee. Active in the yearly Clean Sweep, she's also been a CAC member, and a promoter of monthly meetings of the local Civic Club presidents. She's said to have "the gift of being a peace maker" and is frequently a calm voice in the midst of a non-so-calm argument. Remarkably, Melinda continued to work for our communities through major health issues that would have had most of us just staying at home. We're very fortunate to have Melinda as part of our District network of friends and supporters. Thank you, Melinda, for all you do. You've made a difference.

Our sympathies go out to Doug and Susanne Azevedo in the recent loss of Doug's mother. Susanne and Doug do so much for our community, more than most people ever know.

    STOREN STREET REPAVING

Bobby Jameson passed along a report that Storen has indeed been reviewed, with findings of "areas of fatigue cracking, asphalt patches and block cracking," and an official conclusion that it needs resurfacing. Reportedly, it will depend entirely on the amount of available funding as to whether Storen makes the 2011 road list. But if it misses the list for the coming year, it is supposed to be on the 2012 list.
