Presidents Corner

by Julia Long

It's again time for us to elect officers and board members. Please come to this Monday's meeting prepared to let us know whom you wish to nominate. The involvement of new people is always welcome. We particularly need people to handle several other, non-board jobs, including the management of our website. The website remains a potentially powerful, but unused, tool to inform and unite the community. It isn't necessary to possess more than basic skills, as we are fortunate to have sophisticated software, making it extremely easy to upload and delete material. It would be a wonderful way for some busy new member to contribute to the community without being obligated to any particular time schedule. Are you part of the generation that routinely web surfs? A little extra effort a few times a month could let you provide all of Deer Park with a significant service.

December Christmas Party

Our yearly Christmas party will be held on Monday, December 10, at 6:30 at the Fellowship Hall at Deer Park Baptist Church. Please notice this is the second Monday rather than our usual third Monday, and put it on your calendar now. Bring a covered dish, desert, or finger food if you can. There'll be lots of fun, door prizes, and good eats.

Senior Potluck Lunch

All senior citizens are invited to lunch at the Northwood park gym (8348 Greenridge Road) from noon to 2 PM on Wednesday, November 28. Bring a covered dish or desert to share. This is a good opportunity to meet other neighborhood seniors while enjoying a good meal. If you have any questions, please call Helen DeLong at 572-5410.

The Library is Open, the Library is Open!

Our very own Otranto Road library is re-opening after being closed for forever (well, it seemed like forever), for renovations. Need we say more? Gather up your children and grandchildren and neighbors and head on over. Need a ride to the library? Give Julia Long a call.

Lighting Change Proposed

There's a proposed change in the ordinance controlling outdoor lighting. It would allow poles to go from the present 18-foot maximum to a maximum of 24 feet, provided the pole used a relatively new kind of full-cut-off fixture that is better at keeping the light focused on the ground instead of spreading all around. If you have any comments on that, please let us know.

In Remembrance

The Deer Park Neighborhood Council would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Henry Edwards on the recent loss of his wife.  Also the family of  Mr. C. Bill Overton on the loss of his wife.  Annette Isgitt, wife of our Deer Park Civic Club Vice-President, Mr. Dennis Isgitt, has also recently lost her mother.   Please remember these folks in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.
