As some of you may know, there is a request to ban yard burning before City Council. This meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 14th at 7pm in the North Charleston City Hall. This meeting will also have a public hearing for the ban and encourage anyone who can attend to do so. Only 2 councilmen are opposed to banning.

The past two months have been busy with meetings:

The City Planning Commission:
  1. A request to rezone a piece of property on Otranto to R-1 from PDD was approved.
The County Planning Commission:
  1. A request to rezone a piece of property on University Blvd to OR was approved for the rezoning. Members from the board were present and were in favor of this since it was the next to best thing. This was the same property that had been presented several times before in the past few months

  2. A request to rezone a piece of property on Otranto to OG was deferred again for another month. The board will continue to monitor this request and will inform you of any changes.
North Charleston Fire Chief Meeting:

In June, key players from all over the town were invited to a meeting with the North Charleston Fire Chief. During this meeting, we found out that the fire department is trying to achieve an accreditation and needed feedback from the neighborhoods. We were asked to fill out a couple of surveys and will be kept in the loop in the next coming months of the next steps. I will keep you informed as this moves forward.

As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, I met with the City to discuss getting the maps of Deer Park updated to reflect the current zonings of the properties. I will keep you informed of this as it moves forward.

I hope you all are enjoying your summer and hope to see you in September.

The Deer Park community extends our deepest sympathy to the family of Shirley Ann Brodie of Shadow Lane, who passed away on June 20th, 2011. Shirley was the widow of Lawrence J. Brodie. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
