PRESIDENTS CORNER
By Beth Evans
At this month’s meeting, we are grateful to have Bill Crosby as our speaker.
This month has been yet another busy one with meetings:
The City Planning Commission had their meeting on Monday, April 11th. On their agenda was:
- A request to create additional lots in the University Park for additional townhomes. This request was approved with a clause that signs need to be posted along the wetland buffer stating: “Wetland Buffer. Do Not Destroy.”
The County Planning Commission had their meeting also on Monday, April 11th. On their agenda was:
- A request to rezone a piece of property on University Blvd to OG – Office General. This was also presented in March which was deferred to April’s meeting. I was able to speak to the Commission Members and asked that they deny the OG request since it permits uses that are only allowed on the City’s B-1 and B-2 zoning. I also told the Commission Members that I had been researching alternative ways to make all parties happy. The alternative way is to have the property annexed into the City as ON (Office Neighborhood ) which is the correct zoning. The Commission Members then discussed the matter and voted. The request was denied. ( in our favor) After the meeting, we met with the real estate agent and the prospective buyer and we are going to go forward with getting this property annexed into City. I will keep you informed as this proceeds.
As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, I met with the City to discuss getting the maps of Deer Park updated to reflect the current zonings of the properties. This could start as early as May 2011. I will keep you informed of this as it moves forward.
